Seeking Instructors for Academic Summer Program for Students in Grades 6-8

The mission of the Museum of the City of New York is to explore the past of this fascinating and particular place for lessons about our future and celebrate New York’s heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. Inspired by this mission, The museum will offer 3 one-week academic programs during the summer of 2011 for students in grades 6-8.

We are currently seeking instructors for these programs who have demonstrated excellence in working with students in grades 6-8 as well as degrees relating to the content areas above (including but not limited to History, Public History, Urban Planning and Design, Urban Studies, or Architectural History). The ideal candidate will be able to plan engaging, content-rich programming for students through a variety of project-based activities, field trips, and presentations by content experts.

Program Dates:
Session 1: July 18-22
Session 2: July 25-29
Session 3: August 1-5

Tasks include:

*Collaborating with Summer Programs Coordinator design a week-long program that includes appropriate content and activities for
students in grades 6-8.

*Researching and identifying potential resources, guest speakers, and field trips to be included in the program.

* One day of training with Summer Programs Coordinator and staff

*5 Days of Teaching (M-F) for one of the weeks of programming above. Each day runs from 9:00-4:00 and instructors receive a 90
minute lunch break.

* Daily set-up, clean-up and reflection

* Written evaluation and wrap-up meeting with Summer Programs Coordinator and staff.

Salary

Summer Programs Instructors will be paid competitive rates for all teaching and preparation. Please inquire for more specific information.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest indicating their degrees and area of study as well as potential program themes
relating to their expertise. Candidates should also describe their experience working with youth, particularly students in grades 6-8.

All letters must be received by February 11.
