Note: I spoke face-to-face tonight with the folks at the Chadds Ford Historical Site and they encouraged me to have our majors apply for this internship. If you are interested in this let me know. –JF
Purpose of Internship:
The purpose of the internship is to expose a student to the various working aspects of historic house museums and a small local historical society. To achieve this goal the intern will assist with guiding at the John Chads and Barns-Brinton Houses and welcoming and interpretation at the Barn Visitors Center. In addition the intern will complete a project specifically tailored to the intern’s skills, abilities, interests and career goals.
The intern will be provided with access to literature that will enable him/her to become knowledgeable regarding 18th century lifeways, thereby allowing the intern to inform visitors accurately when conducting tours. Additionally, the intern will be offered the opportunity to learn an 18th century craft for demonstration purposes. The intern will be provided with background information to assist with the interpretation of the John Chads House and the Barns-Brinton House. Prior to independent guiding, the intern will shadow an experienced guide for at least one weekend at each house, and then conduct tours for approval at each house.
In addition to the above, during one weekday each week, the intern will engage in a research or other project (to be determined upon the acceptance of the intern), and assist in the office as needed. Guidance and task assignments will be provided by the Executive Director and the Education Coordinator.
