It is always gratifying to see Messiah College history alums doing important things. I had the privilege of teaching Kim (Pearce) Johnson in several classes at Messiah, including a course in history pedagogy. Now she is teaching AP US History at Susquehannock High School in York County, PA.
This morning (7:56 to be exact) I spoke to her class via Skype about the Great Awakening and the American Enlightenment and took questions from her students. Kim had them well-prepared. They asked about the legacy of these two movements in American life, the impact of the Great Awakening on women’s roles in 18th century society, and the influence of both movements on education and the economy. By all accounts, Kim is a great teacher.
I had a lot of fun and I wish Kim’s class well as they start on their journey toward the AP Exam in May.
