Paid Internship Opportunity with AICUP

 

 

AICUP
The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) is the only statewide organization that serves exclusively the interests of private higher education within the Commonwealth and exists to complement and support the work of campus leaders.  Established in October 1995, through the affiliation of three existing educational organizations, the Association provides a variety of services and programs tailored specifically to the needs and situation of independent higher education in Pennsylvania.  As the voice of independent higher education within the state, the Association seeks to inform the broader public including prospective students and their families about the colleges and universities that make up its membership.  In short, the Association serves as a single point of contact for an entire sector (www.aicup.org).

THE AICUP INTERNSHIP
AICUP serves a large and diverse membership of 88 member colleges and universities providing a multitude of collaborative service programs for their benefit.  Managing and marketing these services to its members is a big challenge for AICUP as we are always developing new ways to enhance these programs to member colleges.  This student internship program is designed for business, accounting and technology majors. This student will work closely with AICUP staff to streamline marketing, accounting and communication systems designed to improve our member colleges’ experience.   This student will work at AICUP offices (Harrisburg, PA) and as such AICUP is reaching out to local AICUP colleges whose students are most likely to live conveniently close to Harrisburg.  The funding would not permit overnight or residential expense reimbursement.
AICUP intends to hire a rising senior or recent graduate to work hand in hand at AICUP to assist in the areas of technology and financial management. These are areas in which AICUP needs implementation of new ideas and programs. This student would leave AICUP with a portfolio of tangible and meaningful experiences for his/her resume.

AICUP has received financial support from three sponsoring companies (“Sponsors”):

  1. Waste Strategies (our environmental health & safety provider)
  2. DigitalRiver (our software reseller formerly known as Journey Education Marketing)
  3. Affinity LTC (our long term care insurance provider)

STIPEND AND EXPECTED EXPERIENCE
This internship will pay a stipend of $15/hour, up to 20 hours a week over a 12-16 week period to be completed between April and August (compensation limited to a total $3,600 budget).  AICUP will allocate funds for parking on Harrisburg’s City Island. While at the AICUP offices, the intern will be provided access to a laptop to complete their assignments. This selected student will be engaged in:

  1. AICUP Monthly Staff Meetings
  2. Planning Meetings with Staff, Corporate Affiliates  and other Collaboration service providers
  3. Completion of an AICUP Business Chart of Accounts “Refresh” using QuickBooks Pro
  4. Immersion in the Administration of BoardEffect for AICUP and AICUP member usage
  5. Preparation and staff support at AICUP Member Meeting on Collaboration (June 12-13, 2014)
  6. Attendance at select meetings at Member Colleges – to be determined
  7. Meet with the Internship Sponsors and learn about their business models and engagements with AICUP 

The intern might attend a professional conference to round out this paid educational experience – to be determined.  The intern will report to Tim Alexander, Vice President for Finance and Administration and work side-by-side with Kelly Carli, Member Services Associate.  Schedule permitting, the intern may also attend and participate in other upcoming events not yet anticipated.

SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants must be a rising senior (Class of 2015) or an upcoming graduate (Class of 2014) of Harrisburg area AICUP-member colleges or universities.  The student’s academic and professional record should provide evidence of superior achievement in the classroom with a major, minor or demonstrated interest in business, accounting and/or business technologies (accounting, marketing and/or communications). 
Letters of application, resumes and other materials will be reviewed immediately and shall be accepted through Friday, March 15th (although interviews may occur before this). 
No more than 5 finalists will be interviewed and AICUP intends to announce its selection on or about April 1st.  A start date with the selected student and a work schedule will be established.
