President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to Deliver Lecture on Thursday

We are pleased to welcome Earl Lewis, President of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, as our 2016 American Democracy lecturer. President Lewis will lecture this Thursday, November 17, on the subject of “History, Mental Health, and Humor: The Lingering Effects of Slavery and Race.” The lecture will take place at 7:15 p.m. in the High Center at Messiah College.

A noted social historian, Lewis has held faculty appointments at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Michigan. He also served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University. He has championed the importance of diversifying the academy, enhancing graduate education, re-visioning the liberal arts, and connecting universities to their communities. Lewis is the author and co-editor of seven books, including Our Compelling Interests: The Value of Diversity for Democracy and a Prosperous Society — just released this month.

We do hope you can join us!
