Student Spotlight: Autumn Miller

Autumn Miller is a Junior History and Politics and International Relations double major. The following is her responses to interview questions written by the History Department’s work studies. Her responses are the first in a series of interviews gathered from Messiah University history students about classes, interests, and their experience as a student during a pandemic.

Interview Question: What history courses are you taking this semester?

Autumn’s Answer: American in the Age of Revolution and World [Civilizations]: Bronze Age-1500.

Q: In your personal research, or in your classes, what is something you have learned about that was interesting?

A: I took Trial of Joan of Arc with Professor Huffman in Fall 2020 and I loved learning about Joan of Arc. What I thought interesting was the political landscape following the 100 Years War and the class was the perfect combination between both of my majors

Q: How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your life as a student?

A: COVID-19 has made me a lot more flexible with schedules and other random circumstances that pop up. It’s been a challenge as well when it comes to doing group projects for classes as well.

Q: Are you involved in any research, project, or internship right now?

A: I am in the process of applying for a summer internship at my local representative’s office to be a congressional intern. Other than that, the only other projects I am involved with are connected to my position as an Independent Student Senator.

Q: If there was one thing you could tell upcoming history students, what would it be?

A: It’s okay to feel tired, confused, and experiencing mild forms of whiplash. As a history student you bounce through so many time periods, so these feelings are totally normal. I promise it will get better, especially if you decide to do a concentration in a certain area.

We would like to thank Autumn for her responses, as well as her excellent advice to upcoming history students!
